A Michigan woman is looking for a new home after police found she was living in a rooftop sign above a grocery store, according to a report from the Midland Daily News. (Google Maps) (Google Maps),

ACROSS AMERICA — Nicknamed “the rooftop ninja,” a Michigan woman who lived in a sign for a year gets points for her ingenuity.

,

Think of all the people who looked up at roof peak displaying the Family Fare grocery sign in Midland and never once thought, “Hmm, a person could set up housekeeping in that sign.”

The unidentified 34-year-old did just that, getting up and into the squatty “A-frame” and then out again without being noticed for about a year. She’d made the sign a cozy home with flooring, a small desk, a pantry for food and even a houseplant. She reportedly had a car and a job.

,

Contractors working at the store discovered the rooftop ninja and called police. They let her go without charges.

Whale Rises From The Dead With Tides

If you think your job stinks, be grateful you’re not in charge of ensuring a dead humpback whale stays “buried.”

,

The dead female whale reappeared on a North Shore beach in Swampscott, Massachusetts, for the second time Tuesday. Named Espresso by the locals, the whale had been towed 50 miles offshore after the first appearance, but she rolled back in with the tide.

Espresso is getting riper by the day, and disposing of her carcass is an expensive proposition. Towing her out to see the first time cost $27,000.

,

“We certainly don’t want to have Espresso moving up and down the North Shore to various communities,” Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald said at a recent meeting.

“We want to encourage residents that if you are curious, go down and take a look. But please don’t touch it. Espresso is falling apart and decomposing. And there are pathogens. There are risks to public health,” he said. “So please be careful, and please do not go near it.”

Someone’s Dying Dogs’ Hair

Something strange has been happening to lost dogs in Connecticut. When they’re reunited with their owners, they look like different animals.

One dog was shaven. A couple of others were dyed different colors, including one that was purple when found. Patches were added to another dog’s eyebrows, all with the intent of making them unrecognizable to their humans, according to the CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteer Network.

“We can’t believe that we have to warn our lost dog owners about this,” the organization said on social media.

A Hugging Burglar: Cops

Another uninvited guest, a 47-year-old Naples, Florida, woman, was arrested after she broke into a stranger’s home and gave the 79-year-old homeowner an unsolicited and unwanted hug.

She then “made herself at home,” police said. She sat in the chair in the living room, rested on the bed, and then took a swim in the pool before leaving.

,

Police tracked her down and charged her with trespassing. This wasn’t her first run-in with police, either.

A Drinking Burglar, Too

Detectives in Cook County, Illinois, said they were able to identify the suspect accused of breaking into and ransacking a home in 2023 because he couldn’t keep his hands off the booze.

Noticing the security cameras, the suspect covered them with spray paint he’d found in the garage. But before he did, the cameras recorded him as he took a swig from a bottle of — we promise we’re not making this up — 19 Crimes Cali Red wine he’d found in the garage refrigerator.

He left his DNA on the bottle, police said. The suspect was arrested earlier this month and faces felony burglary and other charges.

These Intruders Just Delighted

There’s a new family in a Monrovia, California, neighborhood and they’re a big hit. The mom and two of her youngsters stopped by uninvited for a swim at Rick Martinez’s house the other day, providing him with endless entertainment when he reviewed his security camera recordings.

,

“Cuteness overload,” Martinez said in an Instagram post.

Oh, did we mention the home crashers wefd bears?

Martinez said the two cubs are the smallest he’s ever seen and that he hopes to “watch them grow happy and healthy.”
