Some Americans will get a second payment from the Social Security Administration in May.
,
People who receive Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, will get their usual payments on May 1, and then a second payment on May 30.
That’s because June 1 falls on a Sunday. SSI payments are typically issued on the first day of the month, but are moved ahead if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the agency said in a 2022 blog post.
,
Of the some 70 million Americans who receive Social Security benefits, 7.4 million receive SSI, the program for disabled and blind Americans with little to no income or assets.
The maximum SSI payment for 2025 is $967 for an individual and $1,450 for a couple. The amount can vary based on income, certain family members’ income, living situations and other factors.
,
Other Social Security Administration benefits, such as retirement, survivor and spousal benefits, are distributed based on either the recipient’s age or the length of time they have been receiving benefits.
Here are other payment dates to be aware of for May, according to Newsweek:

- Friday, May 2: Retirement benefits for those who have been collecting Social Security since before May 1997 and retirees who also collect SSI benefits will be paid.
- Wednesday, May 14: Benefits for those with birthdays between the first and 10th of any calendar month will be paid.
